Garden Planning Software

The Garden Master CD is a wonderful tool that helps everyone, from novice to expert plan, design, and calendar their own vegetable gardens - and then teach and help others to do the same!

You'll watch on-line videos, with Dr. Mittleider himself creating a garden, and read excellent gardening lessons, as well as two of Dr. Mittleider's best graphically oriented books, 6 Steps to Successful Gardening and The Mittleider Gardening Course (the student manual for all classes taught by Dr. M.)

Also included are Nine Mittleider Gardening Manuals to teach you important gardening subjects such as composting, manures and other fertilizers, the importance and function of soils, and the seldom understood but all-important osmosis and salinity.

Garden Designer

The Garden Designer will guide you through 9 simple steps to plan your garden.

Step 1
Garden Designer

The Garden Designer Simplifies Garden Planning

First you enter the state and area in which you live. With reliable data from sources like the National Climatic Data Center, Garden Master then finds and shows you your average frost dates and calculates the length of your growing season. With over 3,000 locations in the database you'll likely be very accurate, however you can adjust the dates to precisely match your own yard!
Step 2
Garden Designer

What type of Garden do you want?

Second, you decide what kind or type of garden you want, such as single row, Grow-Bed, or Grow-Box.
Step 3
Garden Designer

Plan Your Space

Third, you lay out the space you have, and Garden Master automatically shows the growing beds as they would look in that space, using recommended row and aisle spacings. Of course you can change any of these dimensions, including customizing bed and aisle sizes, to achieve exactly what you want your garden to look like.
Step 4
Garden Designer

Which Direction Will Your Beds Run?

Fourth, you specify the direction your beds will run. This is important because later Garden Master will automatically place your vegetables to maximize their exposure to the sun.
Step 5
Fifth, you list the plants you want to grow. There are over 50 vegetables in the databases, and here you can see a photo of the plant and learn how best to grow it, such as planting, fertilizing, watering, weeding, germination, nutrition, storage, and even planting companions. You can of course also add any other plant you want to your Garden Master Designer.
Step 6
Sixth, you decide how much of each plant you want to grow - either in # of feet or # of plants. To assist you the projected yield is calculated, and you can view the resulting garden diagram, and change everything until you are satisfied - even moving plants from their recommended locations to ones that suit you better.
Step 7
In the Seventh step, Garden Master shows you a daily calendar, with detailed planting instructions for each vegetable, including dates seeds should be planted, seedlings transplanted to the field, and fruit harvested. You are also shown when to prepare the soil, fertilize, weed, and water each plant, row by row. You can print the calendar daily or for any range of dates, thus giving you a daily task list for your garden.
Step 8
The Eighth step automatically creates a customized list of materials, including the amount of seeds, seedlings, and fertilizer you will need for your garden plan. You can also print an order form and actually order these materials, as well as other supplies you may want.
Step 9
In the Ninth and final step, you can print reports to help you keep track of your garden's progress throughout the season.

When finished you are able to save your work, so that you can re-open and revise it at any time. This feature also lets you create and save many different garden plans if you so desire. This can be great for playing what-if with your own garden, or you can use it to teach and assist others in planning their gardens!

Garden Master is an exciting and powerful tool that will save you countless hours in planning, creating, and calendaring your own customized successful and high-yield garden, because it is based on accurate and extensive data and the practical proven advice of experts.

But the most exciting thing about the Garden Master is that anyone can use it! It is actually a great way to get your children involved and interested in the garden. Let them help and the garden becomes their project! All you need is a personal computer running Microsoft Windows or NT.

All seasoned gardeners know that successful gardens don't just happen by chance - they are carefully planned. So start your garden today, by creating it the Garden Master way!

Tip of the Day

It's Spring Planting Time! For those of you in the Northern hemisphere who have winters, March and early April are the time you need to be preparing your soil and planting the hardy vegetable crops such as radishes, peas, cabbage and broccoli.

The freeze/thaw cycles of winter have broken up and loosened most soils, so as soon as it's not muddy, go in and give everything a good weeding with the 2-way hoe (see Tools). Weeding thoroughly this early gives you the upper hand, and is very important.

If you grew a Mittleider garden last year, your beds will be easy to re-make. Just apply Pre-Plant and Weekly Feed to the bed area, then till them in, place strings on your stakes, and re-make the beds.

Be sure to re-check the level of each bed accurately, since they may have changed a little. Do not be satisfied with anything more than 1" fall in a 30'-long soil-bed. Good Gardening!
